Jane Moss Wines, 1999
Winemaker Jane Moss, of Moss Brothers Wine, is proud to announce the release of her Republic of Women special edition, a 1998 Margaret River Merlot, to celebrate publication of her longtime friend Merrill Findlay’s first novel.
“I have a simple approach to wine making: being that it is a craft and an art,” Jane Moss says. “Making wine requires both technical know-how and a little magic. Just like writing fiction does.”
Jane needs little introduction in Australian wine circles, given her strong roots in the industry. Her father began the family tradition as a youth with Mildara and later made significant contributions at Seppelts and Houghtons in Western Australia before establishing the family vineyard in Margaret River, Australia’s premium wine producing region.
Jane graduated from Roseworthy College in 1990 and, although she now lives in Melbourne, she returns to the family winery at vintage time, and at other critical times during the year.
Moss Brothers have won their fair share of medals during the years Jane has been involved in the family business. Their 1998 Moss Brothers Semillon won the Sheraton Gold Medal in Western Australia and was a Top 100 winner at the 1999 Sydney International Wine Competition, for example.
